Things to know about Potosí

The city of Potosí, also known as the Imperial City, is the capital of the Potosi region, taking its origin from the Quechua language, meaning "thunder". It is located in the southwest of Bolivia, 150 km from Sucre, stretching over the Altiplano. ????

Potosi is located at an altitude of 4070m, at the foot of the Cerro Rico mountain, making it one of the highest cities on the planet. Not to mention the striking panoramas of the Bolivian Altiplano peaks. ?

The city of Potosí has an architectural heritage represented by numerous colonial buildings. It is one of the oldest, most famous and most historic cities in Latin America. Like for exemple, the Torre de la Compania built in the 18th century, made of a mixture of traditional Bolivian and Spanish architecture. ?

Past the entrance to the hilltop city, you'll discover pedestrian lanes lined with warmly coloured colonial homes, without forgetting to take a photo in front of the rock-cut portal of San Francisco Church. The church of San Lorenzo is another example of Potosi's mestizo art, with its fa?ade decorated with the indigenous deities of the sun and moon. And many other magnificent monuments to discover ??
