5 Simple Mind-Body Tricks to Elevate Your Workouts

Consciously Ground Your Feet: Think of each foot having four corners and in order to stay stable and connected to the ground we send our attention to all four corners equally. You can do this while standing in line, standing in the kitchen cooking and especially when you are lifting weight.

Body Scans: Do a quick check on your body alignment to feel more aware and in tune during your workout, driving, and when seated or standing at your desk.

Be Intentional vs. Rushed: Don't play into the need to 'keep up' with an instructor's count. Slow down your movements to build strength and control, and awareness. Fast-paced momentum is often a recipe for disaster if you are not already an expert in a given movement practice or sequence.

Check In With Your Breathing & Use it to Your Advantage to Amplify: Use powerful diaphragm breathing techniques to connect deeper with your body or simply pay attention and coordinate your movements with your breath.

Relax Your Jaw: Relaxing your jaw to help release hip tension, making exercises smoother and more enjoyable. Might seem odd, but every yogi, Lamaze teacher and midwife knows in order to relax and free tension in your hips you need to soften your jaw muscles. Try it! See what you notice.
