Spend any time on social media and you’re likely to come across posts of people complaining about the high price of groceries thanks to inflation. So it’s no wonder discount grocery chains, like the German brands Aldi and Lidl, have been expanding. Commercial Observer took a look at how these brands have been targeting small retail footprints and lower overheads to grow at a fast clip. Meanwhile, brokerage JLL has been deploying artificial intelligence throughout its business, including recently what it claims is the first AI purpose-built for commercial real estate.

Discount Grocery Chains Are Booming. Here’s How They Pick Spots

Cheap sells — at least at the grocery store. Discount chains such as German-born Lidl and Aldi, as well as domestic brands like Grocery Outlet and Dollar General, have been on an expansion clip as of late. And consumers are clearly hungry for them. The low-cost model that these retailers offer has become increasingly appealing, as inflation has made Americans more conscious of spending and their budgets.

The Genesis of Generative AI for Everything Everywhere All at Once in CRE

Earlier this month, global commercial real estate services giant JLL began rolling out JLL GPT, which it claims is the first bespoke generative artificial intelligence (AI) purpose-built for commercial real estate Developed by JLLT, the company’s technology division, JLL GPT draws on in-house and external CRE data. It is intended to be used not only by brokers, but also by the firm’s more than 103,000-strong global workforce.
