disConnect()

disConnect()

After working for alomost 15 years for world class communications company which practically connects all of us, one thing I learned well is a need to disconnect. Quite an oxymoron isn't it ?

40 hours a week is what we all sign up for. But most of us put in way more than that and if you are doing this day in and day out you really need to find your "Zen".So you stay innovative and productive to work smarter. Apart from summer or winter breaks having routine reset to our busy mind, really works. For me, weekend bike rides works the best. This gives me my personal time to retrospect and prepare for upcoming week. Once I am done with it, I am physically and mentally present to enjoy weekend with my family and friends.

Few obvious benefits of disconnecting are

  • Flushing out all those pending thoughts consuming your brain cycles even on weekends
  • Giving yourself personal time to do quick recap of the whole week and retrospect for continuous improvement
  • Preparing yourself for upcoming week
  • Giving your brain some break and do things that has nothing to do with your work or career …

I have found solutions to complex problems while taking a shower.. I know, this may sound weird but things that bugs me sometimes need some time off and solution just pops up. At work you are so close to the problem that you miss an obvious solution sometimes. As someone famously said, if you have everything you can and still not found a solution then just sleep over it. I think that's true..

Work smart and not hard. This makes total sense but then how do you do it? This is where most of us stumble.. So you got to find your own ways to achieve this. Productivity is higher when you are focused and motivated.

Remember just like our computers our brains need a reboot too...
