Disconnect to reconnect

Disconnect to reconnect

A few days ago, we had a talk on reducing screen time for kids at our office, today, I read an article by Chetan Bhagat in the Times of India which highlighted the negative impact of excessive digital device usage by kids.

It prompted me to create this post.

It also reminded me of a few actionable tips shared by Shikha Verma during our conversation with her on #TGV124 , she spoke about Digital Detoxification, mindfulness about digital usage, and most importantly, the concept of Digital Creche* which their family diligently follows.

In today's world, technology has become an integral part of our lives. From social media to instant messaging, food delivery to ride sharing, payments to loans, fitness tracking to meditation, we rely on technology to keep us connected with the world around us.

While these technological advancements have brought many benefits, they have also led to a rise in digital addiction and over-dependence on technology.

A digital detox is a period of time where a person takes a break from technology and screens. This can include a range of activities, such as turning off your phone for a few hours, taking a weekend off from social media, or even going on a technology-free vacation. The goal of a digital detox is to disconnect from technology and reduce the negative effects it can have on our mental and physical health.

Benefits of a Digital Detox

1. Improved Sleep Quality

Exposure to screens before bedtime can interfere with our sleep cycles. The blue light emitted by screens can suppress the production of melatonin, which is a hormone that regulates our sleep-wake cycles. By taking a break from screens, we can improve our sleep quality and feel more rested and refreshed.
