The Discomfort Zone: Where Growth Begins

Growth is born from our time in the ‘discomfort zone,’ I’ve realized in my work with Spark Studio’s Gail Tucker Whipple . As part of my study of our relationship with nature, I also noticed that part of the discomfort zone involves breaking down our resistance (or hold) to what is, sometimes through physical exertion like hiking, to open us up to what could be.??

Major turning points in my life, career, and finances have come at the moments where I have just given up.? Looking back now, I was not giving up on life, I was giving up my control over how things could happen.?

I have seen this with job seekers. Two clear examples come to mind where the person was in the final stage of interviews and the offers didn’t come. They were frustrated, vocal about it, and making decisions from this place when I heard from them. It can be difficult to hear you are close to a breakthrough when you are at the height of frustration.?

So I say to you this - nothing is wasted. All the time, toil, and tears are not for nothing. It is the making of your diamond-level experience where you will be able to look back and say it was all worth it.

Your partner in change,

Tiffany

P.S. This is the culmination of my Credential Year, speaking of discomfort! Lessons learned are captured in my new book, Master Coach: Transforming Our Journey Through Conversation on pre-sale now:

This resonates with me too. Not giving up on life but giving up (the illusion) of control.

Beautiful. This in particular spoke to me today: “Looking back now, I was not giving up on life, I was giving up my control over how things could happen.” I am going to follow your breadcrumb here and give up today :-) Your summating words also help me be brave enough to do it; the promise that “nothing is ever wasted.” Thank you for such a salient, soul-touching post for jobseekers, and other human beings everywhere.

This is so true in so many ways! Thank you for reminding us all of the gifts of letting go to allow us to let in what could be.
