Discomfort

Discomfort

TLDR

Teachable Moment: Encourage your team to embrace discomfort and break their routine.

The Problem

Here’s the cold hard truth.

Many employees shy away from discomfort.

There’s a pervasive culture in which people get accustomed to their routine tasks, and the mere thought of venturing outside their comfort zone sends shivers down their spines.

They prefer the predictability and ease of their daily grind.

However, this aversion towards discomfort is like putting a giant roadblock in the path of their professional development.

The world is ever-evolving, and sticking to old methods and not adapting to new challenges can leave your team behind.

Your team members may have amazing ideas and potential, but if they are too afraid to step out of their comfort zones, these ideas never see the light of day.

The Solution

Your goal as a leader is to create an environment where your team feels empowered to face discomfort head-on.

Let them know that stepping into the unknown is how they build the muscles required to succeed in their role.

Consider establishing a regular assignment that pushes boundaries, or team them up with colleagues from different departments for collaborative projects.

The goal is to facilitate their departure from their usual routine and expose them to new experiences.

By doing this and building a culture that welcomes challenges, you’ll cultivate a team that excels and innovates.

Take action and use discomfort as a tool for positive development.

This doesn’t require extraordinary means, just determination and an eagerness to explore new territories for the sake of personal and professional growth.
