Discipline is uncomfortable ...
Namaste
At the start of a fresh new day, when everything seems possible, it’s laughable to think that many of us will find it difficult to spare 30 minutes to an hour during the next 24 hours for some form of fitness!
This is despite knowing fully well the benefits of movement on just about every organ and system in our bodies, to say nothing of our mental well-being!
What does this point to?
Is it really that we are that busy? Or does it point to a lack of self-discipline?
All Yogic texts emphasize the need for?#discipline, going so far as to point out that a person who doesn’t lead a disciplined life is bound to suffer.
Harsh? Not really.
Suffering doesn’t have to be taken in the traditional sense alone.
There’s mental suffering too! The drain on one's emotions and spirit when we realise we have squandered yet another day when we could have set aside half-an-hour to put another step forward on the road to fitness and health.
Discipline does take time and effort. And a good deal of self-reflection too, so that we know ourselves thoroughly and can do what best works for us.
An ally in this lifelong effort is enthusiasm — one of the first sadhaka tattvas (favourable values/habits/conditions) that ancient Yogic texts put forth as essential to live up to one’s full potential. (The other five sadhaka tattvas are courage, patience, right knowledge and curiosity, unwavering faith, and keeping the right company.)
Enthusiasm the first sadhaka tattva can help make it easier to discipline oneself.
If you want to work consistently towards health and fitness, and any other dream, ambition, and goal you hold, then think first about what it is that will inspire enthusiasm in YOU!
It may be a form of exercise, or having an exercise buddy so we're accountable, or maybe it’s learning a dance form, or being out in Nature, or maybe it’s just a small reward that we can give ourselves once we’ve done our fitness routine for the day.

Combine discipline with small treats and we are more likely to stick with it.
Until next week ...
