DISCIPLINE and how it affects your daily activities
One of the many activities that students have been struggling to accept in their post covid schooling is that of the daily morning assembly. Every school has a different version of this. Where students assemble around 8:15am in the morning in front of their building and have a morning routine such as prayers, anthems, display of student achievements, narration of news, expression of morals, etc.?
During covid, students got accustomed to waking exactly 10minutes before their first class. Due to this leniency students didn’t have a mandatory time to wake up to conduct their morning routine of getting ready for school, this inturn meant that students could sleep at any time they wished the previous night, thus disrupting their routines entirely.
Before Covid, students had to sleep by 9pm, so they could wake up by 6am after getting sufficient rest, and then start preparations to get ready and arrive at school by 8am and attend their morning assembly. Now why was this considered important? These timings effectively created a routine for students which they had to follow and were punished if otherwise. How do routines help? Routines give rise to discipline. The very act of following a routine to manage time and optimise energy every single day gives the students discipline.

In a holistic growth environment, apart from marks and report cards, small attributes like these are much needed for the generations of tomorrow, and they need to be aware of them as well. We see a lot of students grumpy and angry post covid with the morning assembly. So I urge you all to take 5minutes and explain to the students why the morning assembly is very important, and how the smallest things we do everyday have the greatest impact.
