Discipline is a virtue that holds immense power in shaping our lives. It is the driving force behind personal growth, freedom, and love.?As Jocko Willink, a retired Navy SEAL and author of the book "Discipline Equals Freedom," eloquently stated, "Discipline is the pathway to freedom." The impact and significance of discipline can never be overstated and serves as the key to unlocking our true potential and the potential of our team.
Discipline is not only a critical virtue to personal growth it is also a nonnegotiable for anyone who desires to successfully lead others.?Leadership is the art of positively influencing a collective group to achieve a shared purpose. The key word in my definition is influence.?If we ask, we must do.?You can come up with 1000 reasons why they should do this and I, the leader, do not have to.?That’s fine and one can justify actions to oneself all day long.?But know that leaders who do not back up their orders, guidance, and directions with your personal example, will simply lose influence.??There is much written about “leadership by example.”?It may not be specifically leadership, but the leader’s example of personal discipline is an absolute must for anyone who wants to influence others.

Not only is discipline freedom, but discipline is also love.?The most effective leaders of influence, love their people and love their teams.?Love, at its core, seeks the well-being and growth of individuals.
