Tencent is the leader in Social Media in China with WeChat 806 millions users and QQ 640 million users are the fondation of the group that generate 7.2 billions USD revenues.
The Tencent share has risen sharply since mid-August, when the group released results beyond expectations. In the second quarter, its profit jumped 47%, driven in particular by the good health of WeChat. The instant messaging application developed by Tencent reached 806 million active users, up from 600 million a year earlier. And most importantly, it has set up a very profitable business model, offering brands a platform where it is possible to do almost anything: chat with friends, but also watch videos, play video games, Buy a product online ... So much so that today, WeChat is copied by the other players in the sector, starting with Facebook. Another source of growth: gaming revenues, which are expected to nearly double in 2016, according to JP Morgan.
Tencent, more generally, has built an empire with various activities, from online advertising to games, to music, payment or the production of video content. It also displays strong ambitions in e-commerce, defying the Chinese leader in this matter, Alibaba. Tencent became the largest shareholder in JD.com, one of the country's leading platforms.
The founder of Tencent, Ma Huateng know as Pony Ma is quoted saying: “our discipline of execution is the fondation of our today’s success."
