Discipline in the Classroom
What does discipline look like in the classroom?
Discipline is part of classroom managment.?
It is agreed upon terms set up?between students and teachers.?
It presents established rewards and consequences for certain actions and behaviors in the classroom.
As part of discipline strategies, students are made aware of how their actions and behaviors in the classroom, good or bad, not only impact on them as individuals, but on others in the classroom as well.?
The classroom is one space where everyone's actions impact on everyone else. This is very important for students to understand.?
If one student in the classroom suffers, everyone suffers.
Therefore, it is upon everyone in the classroom to do his or her part in creating a safe space for teaching and learning to occur to everyone's happiness and success.
As reminders for teachers: classroom management, and by default?discipline strategies, MUST be established in the first few meetings between teachers and students.?
I have a free classroom management resource available here for download.
If classroom management rules and routines not established quickly, a lack of discipline, or inappropriate discipline approaches, will continue to cause problems for the entire school year.
To end on a happy note, I provide free resources to help set up classroom management and discipline strategies, quickly and effectively.
This is a free behavior reflection sheet teachers can download and use in the classroom to have students reflect on their behavior, and how their actions can impact on others in the classroom. You can also click on the image to visit the page.
