Namaste All,
Here are some thoughts from my end on the above subject (Only My view no Comparison with any process). Why there is a delay in discharging the patients in hospitals? Because discharge summary is not ready, Nursing returns are delayed, financial clearance process is not in place, Pharmacy clearance is delayed.
Step One: Expected date of discharge should be clear for each patient
Step Two: Planned discharges should be in place based on EDOD
Step Three: Nursing team should clear the drug / medical supply returns during night shift
Step Four: IP Coordinators / Billing Team should coordinate with doctors on the EDOD to plan the clearances well in advance
Step Five: Discharge tracking process should be followed for all cash patients
Step six: Clearance TAT should be very minimal to avoid any delay in discharging cash patients
Step Seven: Billing team should verify the bills on daily basis rather than verifying the same on discharge day
Step Eight: Billing team should keep the patients up to date on their current billing so that patients will not be surprised during discharge which will help the billing team to process the discharge quickly
