DISC - Lego Personality Workshop

I was recently asked by a team of Technology users to organize a DISC profile workshop for them. The team lead wanted each team member to be self-aware of what personality profile they have, and how to best make use of it to build a more cohesive and performant team.
You know me guys, I love to help people be their best, so after our call, I did not give a second thought, I said yes and assured them that no matter what I wanted to do this with them. we just had to agree on the dates and format of the workshop.
= > Be careful how easy and quick you say YES to things, especially if you are an Enneagram Type 2.
It is great to want to help people, but it is wise to take into consideration what this will imply in terms of preparation, how full your agenda already is and getting to know even more about the goals of the team….
A few days after, when we connected to handle the logistics and planning, I was told that no one wants to come and sit in a room to watch a boring PowerPoint presentation that they could download from google ad watch on their own. No Presentation Judith!
This team wanted to learn via an experience that was to be fun while educating at the same time. To quote her exact words she said “We will really appreciate if you can make this a very fun time, clearly educative while extremely fun. As if they left the desk to go play but coming back from their playtime with new things they have earned and a memorable team-building experience… And please, we just have one hour for this experience”
Any facilitators in here? What would you have suggested?
As far as I am concerned, I had already said YES, I was happy and enthusiastic about the time we would have together. I did not yet have ready, a sixty-minute activity that would be fun, educative and still allow deep learning for serious adults; with no trace of PowerPoint slides.
But I love challenges, so I got my brains working to find the activity that could suit all these conditions.
I went into my toolbox to find what would be the best possibilities to have fun while learning about our personality and that of others. I had a handful of ideas - I always have ideas you know…
One peculiar thought seemed to get close to what this team needed: Using Lego Serious Play to present DISC profiles.
Just telling people you are going to play Legos(, especially those who have children in their daily lives), it is like, yeahhh, we are getting out of the office realm, let’s go have some fun.
There I had the fun condition met, I still had to make the Lego Serious play a team-building activity and make sure as people enjoyed the experience, they also learned about the DISC personality, so as to use the insights gained in the next days after the workshop.
I finally settled down with the following proposal that was accepted, experienced and enjoyed by the whole team:
- Words that describe Me
- This is what my style brings to a team
- Together we build better and innovative solutions
I am sure you might be curious to know the details of the activities, right?
Let me know below which one you want details of.
But as you can see in the pictures, the team enjoyed the workshop so much that we are inline for more of such fun playful workshops that will help build more trust, cohesion, better communication, and overall more efficient teams.
I am happy they enjoyed this Lego serious play DISC workshop and before I could rest and enjoy this new invention, I got another challenge from a different team: How can you use your Lego to help my team come up with innovative solutions on how to handle the support of solutions they deliver?
It seems complex right? We are talking about using Lego in design thinking for process improvement…
I am still turning my Lego box to see how to integrate those parameters. I will share with you guys how it goes. Luckily for me, so the stone date was set for this other workshop.
In the meantime, there is definitely, lots of possibilities to spice your DISC personality profile with Lego.
Anyone here sharing my point of view or have a similar experience to share?
