Disaster Declaration Issued for Texas Counties

Beryl's landfall forecast is moving up the Texas coast. As of Friday night, landfall appears most likely between South Padre Island and Corpus Christi.

Initial Declaration

The initial list of 40 counties includes Aransas, Atascosa, Bee, Bexar, Brooks, Calhoun, Cameron, DeWitt, Dimmit, Duval, Frio, Goliad, Gonzales, Hidalgo, Jackson, Jim Hogg, Jim Wells, Karnes, Kenedy, Kinney, Kleberg, LaSalle, Lavaca, Live Oak, Matagorda, Maverick, McMullen, Medina, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio, Starr, Uvalde, Victoria, Webb, Wharton, Willacy, Wilson, Zapata, and Zavala. These areas, characterized by their significant agricultural and industrial activities, now face the dual threat of natural disasters and their cascading effects.

Expansion of the Declaration

On Saturday, Lt. Governor Patrick expanded the disaster declaration to include 81 more counties: Anderson, Angelina, Austin, Bastrop, Bell, Bowie, Brazoria, Brazos, Burleson, Caldwell, Camp, Cass, Chambers, Cherokee, Collin, Colorado, Comal, Dallas, Delta, Ellis, Falls, Fannin, Fayette, Fort Bend, Franklin, Freestone, Galveston, Grayson, Gregg, Grimes, Guadalupe, Hardin, Harris, Harrison, Hays, Henderson, Hill, Hopkins, Houston, Hunt, Jasper, Jefferson, Kaufman, Lamar, Lee, Leon, Liberty, Limestone, Madison, Marion, McLennan, Milam, Montgomery, Morris, Nacogdoches, Navarro, Newton, Orange, Panola, Polk, Rains, Red River, Robertson, Rockwall, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Shelby, Smith, Titus, Travis, Trinity, Tyler, Upshur, Van Zandt, Walker, Waller, Washington, Williamson, and Wood. These counties are diverse in their economic activities, ranging from bustling metropolitan centers to vital agricultural hubs.

Government and Industry Response

Lt. Governor Patrick emphasized the state's commitment to swift and effective disaster response. "Our priority is the safety and well-being of all Texans. We are mobilizing every available resource to support the affected counties and ensure a quick recovery," Patrick said.

The oil industry, working closely with state and local authorities, is taking proactive measures to mitigate risks. Emergency preparedness plans, reinforced infrastructure, and environmental safeguards are being put in place to manage the impacts of the disaster.
