The disaster that is called the AI PIN!

Firstly, when you demo a product, you have to be absolutely careful of what you put into it. The impression of your product & company rides on the demo. Remember, that that video is going to stay on the internet forever.

So coming to the point. I thought the product has quiet a few challenges in them....

1)??? The demo itself had a few mistakes. E.g. When asked about how much protein is typically there in a handful of almonds. It replied 15 grams. Where as anyone who is slightly health concious and know a little bit about the content of food will be able to tell you that its roughly between 6-8 grams. If you do a simple search on the internet Google will give you the same answer.

When asked, where do you go to watch a eclipse. The AI should have told location for the upcoming one. On the other hand it provided information of the one that already happened.

This is Typical AI Hallucination stuff.

Lets come to the interface….

Its basically laser projection on your hand to create interactions.

2)??? The interface clearly looks like it has a lot of rough edges. Interaction of the laser projected on the hand I think is not a very conducive experience. The tilting of hand for other interactions can ideally? be achieved if you are stationary standing still at one place (like they showed in the demo). Imagine if you’re walking or running and interacting with somebody, In such scenarios I don’t know how these interactions will work with the device.?

3)??? Today our phones can be connected to our vehicle screens for interaction while driving or other such activities (Music/Navigation). This device will be in an unusable state at such times. How will you play/control music while driving. Maps/ Navigation? How will you operate it when cycling, or in winters when its’ snowing and you are wearing gloves??

4)??? I didn’t find this device to do anything different than what a chat GPT & a translate app on my phone can’t currently do. It is a single voice input, output, interaction device. But a mobile phone has far more features. So this will never be able to replace a phone.

5)??? Especially in today’s times when the picture quality and the video quality of your phone is also extremely important. Today phones are at a stage where they are replacing DSLR’s and people also buy phones for their camera. The demo of the picture and the video quality from this device was bad. The iPhone 8 I think takes better pictures.

6)??? If I’m already carrying a phone which can do all of these things, FOR FREE! I don’t see a need for this other device. Also the cost of 699 is prohibitively expensive. The Meta RayBan glasses, or the smart frames by Amazon, or meta Quest or Apple Vision Pro are more logical plausible wearable devices which have the potential to Eliminate the phone someday seems a reality. This device just looks like a gimmic. ?

Also lets not forget how easy/difficult voice interactions are for us at this stage. AI has still not progressed to the level of seamless interactions with voice. How many times are you frustrated with the Voice assistant not recognising your song, or your request, of giving a completely wrong answer.

This to my mind looks like a marketing pitch for acquisition. They are building a showcase of a technology platform for some company to acquire them to integrate into their wearable products eventually....
