Chapter Four-A Disappointment?

This was one of our favorite pub food places, with a waitress,( Emily), whom we somehow managed to keep getting seated in her area each time we visited. She was perfect for this job, and we loved it when we knew we would have her as our server. Pam and her are still connected on social media.

We constantly asked her at every visit if the joint had any logo beer glasses; yet. I can't remember how many times that happened when the answer was always NO, NOT YET.

A later visit with "Our Gal" began with her being all excited when she saw us coming through the door. We ordered a pint and she served them with a smile and announced that they had logo pint glasses! We said we would take one, and "Please add it to our bill!" More later as we pause. . . the disappointment is that COVID appears to have done them in. Still more to come. . . When we received our bill, she had in her hand, a plain pint glass. On it, she had taped a piece of masking tape on which with a sharpie, she had handwritten "Dempsey's". To this very day, I wish we had saved that glass, it was priceless!

The actual logo glass they chose to sell was a disappointment because their logo was a very colorful . . .rooster, which was not printed on the glass.

Petaluma CA. has had its share of different personalities. Hollywood was there for "American Graffiti", "Peggy Sue Got Married", and many others. It was known as "The Egg Capitol of THE WORLD!", and holds or held the world championship arm wrestling event and accordion festival. Not anywhere near water, a bar was named "The Petaluma Yacht Club." Perhaps one of California's newest Appellations is the "Petaluma Gap" a grapevine-growing region due to a gap in the coastal mountains allowing cool "marine layer" air to flow into the area during most growing season periods for Chardonnay.

Our lives changed forever for the better when we moved to Petaluma. Pam, being a nurse would lead the way to meeting both business persons along with doctors, nurses many of whom were travelers like her from all parts of the country, and also from the Phillipines and Germany. One male nurse was truly "an angel among us", and was taken back to Heaven all to soon for reassignment would be my guess! Many long term campers like us became like family; church members added to that collection of wonderful people both young and old. I would be remiss not to mention Ellen from Scotland who was and probably still is a hoot. She was a long time US resident and she never gave up her accent, as she tells her stories, she sounds as if she just stepped off of the boat. After many years of parting ways with California, we go back to visit as many if these wonderful people as possible and have had one reunion thus far which we hope to repeat in 2024.

Falling in like with all these folks was immediate, and learning to love them followed soon after. Blessed to meet them, blessed to get to know them, and blessed to still be in touch with many of them.
