Disability Recruitment and DE&I Recap - 30th October
?? Disabled activists and unions are uniting to oppose anticipated cuts to social security
Disabled activists and unions are uniting to oppose anticipated cuts to social security in Labour's upcoming budget, led by Chancellor Rachel Reeves. They warn that disabled people are once again being scapegoated for financial issues, echoing patterns from previous decades, and highlight a resurgence of harmful rhetoric that fuels discrimination. Key figures, including representatives from the PCS union, called for a fundamental shift in the welfare system to prioritise dignity over punishment. Activists expressed concerns that proposed changes could lead to severe consequences for disabled people, including increased mortality rates, and are preparing for potential legal action if cuts are enacted.
??Socials TakeOver for Black History Month
The theme for Black History Month UK 2024 is Reclaiming Narratives. This emphasises the importance of telling and retelling the stories and experiences of Black individuals and communities, challenging stereotypes and misconceptions. Bi-weekly, Evenbreak will feature a story takeover from Black and disabled voices, sharing their experiences of being both Black and disabled in the workplace. We’ll also actively re-share content from creators and activists, ensuring we amplify a diversity of voices. #ReclaimingNarratives
