?? Socials TakeOver for Black History Month

The theme for Black History Month UK 2024 is Reclaiming Narratives. This emphasises the importance of telling and retelling the stories and experiences of Black individuals and communities, challenging stereotypes and misconceptions. Bi-weekly, Evenbreak will feature a story takeover from Black and disabled voices, sharing their experiences of being both Black and disabled in the workplace. We’ll also actively re-share content from creators and activists, ensuring we amplify a diversity of voices. #ReclaimingNarratives

?? Inclusion O’clock: Time embodiment in the experiences of disabled employees.

A new study introduces the concept of "timeism" to explore how ableist views on time and productivity may marginalise disabled workers. Based on qualitative interviews with disabled people, it examined how these workers navigate and resist societal expectations around pace and productivity while often internalising these pressures. The key contributions of the study include:

  1. Timeism Framework: It conceptualises timeism as a lens for understanding the temporal aspects of ableism in organisational settings.
  2. Interlocking Disadvantages: It empirically shows how timeist norms create compounded challenges for disabled employees.
  3. Intersectional Approach: It emphasises the need for an intersectional perspective to fully grasp the experiences of time and ableism at work.

The study also highlights how disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic present an opportunity to rethink traditional work rhythms and foster more inclusive practices, advocating for organisational changes that challenge ableist norms and prioritise the experiences of marginalised workers.
