Disability Expo Community: How can people be better allies to the disabled community?
"Ask us what you can do to make our lives easier (and more equitable). Save us a spoon. Remove a barrier. And if we ask you for an accommodation, or to make something more accessible, make it your mission to make it happen."
"Research the venue ahead of time for us. The amount of 'accessibility admin' we have to do just to leave the house is a lot and its draining! When a friend or colleague suggest lets meet at xyz for lunch, and don't worry I've called up, it has step free access, accessible toilet etc etc - this little action means the world!"
"Ask the person if you want to help them. Not "Let me do that for you" but "Is there anything I can do to help?" I often say no, but it gives me the chance to say thanks for offering!"
"A team works best if all of the actions and intentions head in the same direction, utilising each individual skill and opinion unconditionally.?We are in this attack together - to fully support inclusivity and enable opportunity for all.?It’s not a race, where certain ones stride ahead and take the lead, financially and socially benefiting on a personal basis.?We’re a team!"
"Don't assume what we are able to do or not to. Be open for listening and learning about disability."
