Disability is Not an Adversity, It's a Solution
Today, I stand before you to discuss a topic that is often misunderstood and stigmatized especially in my current Igembe central rural set up. disability. It's a topic that has been shrouded in misconceptions and prejudice for far too long. But it's time to change that narrative.
As an African proverb says, "The disabled person is not a burden, but a gift from God." This proverb beautifully captures the essence of what I want to convey today. Disability is not a problem to be solved or a defect to be corrected. It is a unique aspect of human diversity, a gift that can enrich our lives and communities.
Another African proverb reminds us, "If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping in a room with a mosquito." This proverb highlights the power of even the smallest individuals to make a significant impact. People with disabilities have proven time and again that their unique perspectives and experiences can lead to groundbreaking solutions and innovations.
