Disabilities part 3 Moving forward

Life can be brutal, life can be unforgiving and the difference between good better and best is discipline. The difference between success and failure the difference between surviving and thriving is mindset.

?

Wining happens off the court, off the field outside of the office when no one is watching. When the coach isn’t there when the fans aren’t there wen the boss isn’t looking. It is just you and your character.

?

The discipline to push forward while others rest, the discipline to rise up is grit. The inspiration to continue through the pain to ignore the critics to push beyond everyone else is grit.

Life does not give you what you want life gives you what you deserve and if you haven’t worked for it, if you haven’t sacrificed, if you haven’t given it your all then you don’t deserve it. No one promised life would be easy.?

There is growth on the other side of pain. There is wisdom on the other side of failure. When pain comes it is time to test your character. When it all seems hopeless rise up rise above the pain and loss and test your inspiration.

Remain faithful to yourself to your vision. Pushing through the pain creates grit


Surviving and Thriving has numerous objectives.? They are:

Grasp the concept of acceptance as a three-step process:?

1.Recognizing problems

2, Admitting deficits and

3.Accepting the reality of the present moment.

?

????? Become invested in one’s own recovery.

????? Build an understanding for Healthy Interdependence.

????? Explore feelings accompanying disability.

????? Understand that personal worth is not determined by ability to function.

????? Deal with loss and be able to learn how to grieve and let go of disappointments.

????? Become aware of personal strengths and weaknesses.

????? Build a solid framework of realistic goals.

????? Learn problem-solving skills.

????? ?

Since people learn through repetition, each meeting begins and ends in the same way.? Before each group, a participant reads:

Recovery does not mean that you wake up one day and you’re fine.? It does not mean that your memory becomes intact.? It does not mean that you don’t get confused, and it certainly does not mean you regain the life you had prior to the injury/disability/illness.

Recovery to a person with an injury/disability/illness is making progress.? Making progress is accepting your deficits, learning success strategies to help you with those deficits and learning to love and value yourself.

At the end of every day you should name a positive change that you made since your trauma or make a positive self-statement.

Does Anyone Live Free from Suffering and Loss? I don’t think so.? Is Recovery Worth the Struggle? It absolutely is.?

My life has taught me that I was not singled out for the terrible misfortunes that I have experienced.? That insight alone doesn’t eliminate or minimize my problems.? It simply reduces the suffering that comes from struggling against the unfortunate facts of my life.

Let’s Review:

When faced with an obstacle or challenging set of circumstances, what?message(s) do I say to myself in order to keep from feeling defeated?

?

Recovery is not only making progress, it is taking one step.

?

Why is setting goals important?

If you don’t set goals or visualize a picture of where you want to?be, you will probably lose momentum.

?

Genuine change will require a sustained effort. That’s why it’s important?to keep goals realistic and attainable!

?

In order to recover, what qualities are required?

?

Recovery demands commitment and a sustained determination to overcome?obstacles and attain goals. It takes determination, effort and time to modify behavior.

How did I accomplish all of this?

I LEAD AN INTERDEPENDENT LIFE AND I’M ABSOLUTELY COMFORTABLE FOR ASKING FOR ASSISTANCE WHEN I NEED IT.

I’M AWARE OF THE ACTIVITIES THAT DEPLETE MY ENERGY AND TRY NOT TO DO THEM.

?

I KNOW WHAT I DO WELL AND I KNOW WHEN I NEED HELP. I TRY TO DO ALL THAT I CAN AND ONLY ASK FOR ASSISTANCE WHEN IT’S ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.

SUCCESS STRATEGY No. 1

I rest and try to remain calm. Mornings are my best times & that’s when I try to schedule activities.


SUCCESS STRATEGY No. 2

IT’S BEST TO CONFRONT RATHER THAN AVOID MY PROBLEMS.

I THINK OF MYSELF AS HAVING A BATTLE WITH THE DEFICITS CREATED BY MY INJURY AND BY MY AGE.?

AS LONG AS I REMAIN IGNORANT OF MY DIFFICULTIES, I WILL BE UNABLE TO AVOID OR REDUCE MY OWN SUFFERING.


SUCCESS STRATEGY No. 3: Those goals must be realistic and attainable.
