DIS-SERVICE REMINDERS
Reminders.
Reminders are so important. When I want to remember to do something, I make a reminder.
When I want to wake up on time, I set an alarm.
When I have an appointment, I set a reminder.
When I want something taken care of, I make sure I remember it.
There are very few things in life we do not need reminders for. We don't need reminders to get dressed in the morning (usually). That's a commitment so burned into our brains, it will most likely get done without a reminder.
But most else need reminders.
And when you are committed to something, you set a reminder. You put it on your calendar. You put post it's around your space.
Many coaches and consultants have systems where automatic reminders are sent out to their clients to remind them of their appointment.
THIS. IS. A. DIS-SERVICE.
Come again?
I said this is a DIS-SERVICE. Something that not only DOES NOT SERVE your client, it places a huge handicap and block in their way.
When a client, or anyone for that matters, book a time with you, THEY must show THEMSELVES that this is important to them. THEY must remember that they want something done. If they do not want it done, you can't force them to show up or make it important to them.
I have NEVER missed an appointment that I have booked. Why? Because when I book an appointment with someone, ESPECIALLY a coach willing to give me time, I do not forget it. It's in my calendar WITH an alarm if I think I'll need it.
When someone misses an appointment with me, I don't get upset. Because I have just learned that this is not a priority for the person who booked the time. And if I ever do speak with them, it's a chance to explore that. TO get perspective into their world why they would book a time but not make it important enough to set a reminder. It's not about me. It's about THEM.
We cannot fix or change others' lives for them. We can create opportunities but they must take the step and grab that opportunity.
Set your own reminders. Not someone else's.
