Dis-ease is just a state of mind
Richard van der Spuy
I help frustrated & conflicted people, suffering from a lack of self-worth despite achieving success - get aligned and empowered with what truly matters.
From the 16th century till the 1970’s western medical science did not venture into the arena of the spirit, what we now call the mind.
It was through the discovery of Candace Pert in the 70s, a scientist involved in making a breakthrough that won The Nobel Prize, that the mind-body connection to disease was made.
It was discovered that the neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine (amongst others) modulate the immune system.
In simple terms, this means that how you feel, strengthens or weakens your immune response.
To give an example of how this can affect you; long-term anger or sadness can increase inflammation, raising risks of illnesses such as arthritis.
Now this is just one example amongst many where studies have shown a direct correlation to illness and even shortened lifespan due to unmanaged intense emotional states.
On the other hand, in one study it was found that gratitude “can lower blood pressure, improve immune function, and facilitate more efficient sleep.”
Many, many studies show the positive impact of laughter, love, and happiness too.
I’m not going to drone on about this because I think you get the point.
If you want good health?
You’ve got to exercise (even just walking daily)
And yes you’ve got to eat well (whole foods)
And also you’ve got to get enough quality sleep (7-8 hours)
Interestingly just taking care of the above, also has a foundational effect on regulating your emotional states
So once again good old “self-care” wins the day in creating good physical, emotional, and mental health
It’s all so obvious…
So why don’t you just DO the simple right things?
I contend it’s partly because we don't learn NEW things.
You see, your choices emerge internally from your range of past experiences and accumulated knowledge
So you’ll always keep doing what you’ve done unless you cultivate a practice of learning new things.
But that’s just part of it
It’s also the quality of what you learn that influences your choices
And that’s again just a part of a wider range of factors that determine what you will choose
If you start every day by spending 5 minutes searching for what’s right in your life
I guarantee that over time your choices will be healthier
There’s no quick fix
And that’s the good news.
Why?
Because there’s a definite formula for good health
Which means anyone can get there
If you choose to.
You can start by adding a simple, daily 5-minute practice of gratitude to your morning.?
Because it’s what opens the doors to more expansive possibilities
What you appreciate, appreciates ;)?
(Now don’t get greedy and do more than 5 minutes and also focus on happiness, love, laughter, etc. We don’t want you feeling too good and being too healthy ??)
P.S.
When you’re ready I have two ways to help you on the journey of wholesome self-care to make the most of your life.
