The “Dis-Assembly” Line

Everyone has heard of the assembly line. Most businesspeople think that it was Henry Ford who first applied it in the manufacturing of automobiles.?It reduced the time to make a car from?1.5 days to 1.5 hours.??

However, the assembly line was not Ford’s creation. An employee brought him the idea who was drawn by its use in another industry where?it was the act of taking things apart, not assembling them that created value.?I appreciate the connection to Chicago, my home town.

Take 3 min 20 seconds?(twice as long as it took Ford to make a car) to understand where the assembly line?really originated from. And consider what you can dis-assmble or re-assemble in your organization.

?

Apple has one. So Should You.

To the extent that most businesspeople are familiar with the concept of a?“business ecosystem”?they think of Apple’s iPod, iPhone, and iPad and the ecosystem they are embedded in.?

Have you looked at?adopting an ecosystem business model and strategy in?your?business?

An article from?Strategy+Business?will help you get started with some great examples.?“Companies that overlook or misjudge ecosystems do so at their peril.”

?

A Subtle but Profound Distinction: Leader or Manager?

These two words are often used interchangeably.?“The distinctions are subtle but make a huge difference in your team’s performance.”?

A very short but important article from Inc Magazine answers the question,?Are You?a Manager or a Leader?

?

Why they get the “Big Bucks”

And while we’re talking about leaders,?why does the boss get paid more? It may seem self-evident;?it is because he or she is more experienced, makes the rules, is better educated?

It’s none of those.?

A short summary of research?into this question reveals?why those at the top get top dollar… and why it shouldn’t be a surprising answer.
