Last week, we shared findings from our latest consumer survey and we wanted to provide some highlights here as well.???

A government census reports that in 2019, 8% of people, or 26.1 million, did not have health insurance at any point during the year. Today, more than 15 million low-income Americans, now covered by the public health emergency (PHE) are at risk of losing Medicaid coverage unless the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) extends the benefit later this month. A lack or lapse in coverage can cause a serious financial barrier for people to obtain — and maintain — their medicine.??

Even with insurance, too many consumers can’t afford or access the medicine they need. In our latest consumer survey, 58% of respondents cited high prescription costs as their greatest challenge when purchasing medication.??

Answering the call with generic medicine???

Another way to bring medicine within reach is through low-cost generic alternatives. According to the Food and Drug Administration, generic medicines account for about 90% of all prescription drug purchases in the U.S.??

87% of those in our survey indicated trust in generics and yet as many as 40% of people still have questions about switching.? Along with affordable pricing, consumers need reliable sources of information so they can make the best decisions for their health. 64% still rely on search engines and 31% see their doctors as a trusted source. A conversation with the doctor, the pharmacist and the patient is the best way to ensure the medicine prescribed is right for the patient.????
