THE DIRT NEWS JANUARY 2022!
Here is the Dirt on what is happening in the market right now!
Example 1 - A heavy civil estimator was interviewing with 3 other companies when I submitted him to a client last Wednesday afternoon. The client invited him to go to lunch on Thursday and both hit it off very well. They extended an offer to him Thursday afternoon and the candidate immediately accepted and shut down the other companies he interviewed with.
Example 2 - A highly sought after Geotech PE from a big organization interviewed with a smaller company last week and was offered a position but the candidate had 4 other offers to explore with stronger benefit offerings.?
Example 3 - A large construction company has a process of 3 interviews. The VP first interviewed the Candidate 2 weeks ago and passed him to the PM for the next step.?He was set to interview for the second time this past Friday afternoon but took an offer with a competitor Friday morning and cancelled that 2nd interview because the process was taking way too long.?The candidate response was that he did not want to work for a company that takes weeks or months to make things happen, even though the offer from this larger company would have been more money than the offer he accepted.?
The point of these examples is to show that you have to move fast in this market to win. Companies need to have short turnarounds on offers. When a passive candidate turns from passive to active, the candidate can have multiple offers within 10 days! Just because a candidate is not interviewing with other companies when they are introduced to you, they can turn into active candidates after the first conversation!
“One aspect of the 2021 world of work has remained constant — the importance of compensation. We all have heard about the ‘great resignation.’ Yes, talented players are resigning, and they are also landing new gigs at the same time. It seems to be more a redistribution of talent, let’s call it a reshuffling. That reshuffle is now bringing about higher compensation, sign-on bonuses, and other long-term incentives. Yes, people are seeking roles with value driven companies, firms with a vision and purpose — and with firms that pay really well. It is still about the money — it is just now, the money must come with additional values of corporate culture, vision, and purpose. Talent today has a great many choices,” said Bert Miller.

3 年Great newsletter Stu. Your examples are exactly what I'm seeing in the Market. If the candidate is right companies must move fast or candidate will be working for their competitor
I keep hearing about how critical it is for companies to make strong offers as quickly as they can to win talent. Obviously, it is important to properly vet candidates and make sure they are a fit for the role, but doing so as efficiently as possible is key.
