Is directory submission beneficial or harmful for SEO ?

Does submitting your website to online directories help to increase the rankings in SERPs ? Or do they have a negative impact ? Will your website be penalized if you submit to web ?
Most SEOs today are of the opinion that directory submissions do not add any kind of value any longer. It is true to an extend as the practice has been misused by webmasters for a very long time now.
However, selectively submitting your websites to a few high quality human edited directories can still have some SEO benefits such as,
- Faster indexing
- Co citations
- Deep linking
- Direct traffic (local directories)

So if you are planning to submit your websites to web directories, it is important to choose only high quality directories. You can check for the metrics of the websites like PA, DA, Moz rank etc.

The wayback machine can also be used to check the authenticity of the directories.
Make sure that you are submitting only to quality directories and not over doing it.

5 年I do directory submissions only for new websites, and only on very niche specific directories that are related to the business i'm submitting. otherwise? it will be just useless.
