Director identity numbers available later in 2021
Company directors will be able to take up the convenience of the new Director identification numbers (DIN or director ID) later this year, according to the government.
This follows the appointment of the Commissioner of Taxation as the Commonwealth Registrar of the Australian Business Registry Services (ABRS) under the Modernising Business Registers (MBR) program, which will establish a new whole-of-government registry platform.
The new ABRS, when established, will bring together ASIC’s 31 business registers and the Australian Business Register onto a new system at the ATO. It is being introduced progressively over the next years to 2024.
Company directors won’t have to wait that long to be able to apply for and use their new director IDs. These will be available later this year as the first new function of the ABRS to be established, according to the government.
Directors will therefore be able to obtain a single identifier for all their company roles, allowing the convenience of having one consistent set of contact and other details and of updating changes in those details through one source. They will be able to use ABRS online services and will sign in using the myGovID app.
