Fettes College is a leading HMC co-educational boarding and day school set on a magnificent site of approximately 100 acres close to the heart of Edinburgh.?It has a strong tradition of academic, sporting and cultural excellence underpinned by outstanding pastoral care. Fettes opened its doors in 1870 and became fully co-educational in 1980: it is now an independent school of some 800 boys and girls from the ages of 7 to 18.

Fettes seeks to appoint an outstanding Director of Development to succeed the current postholder. This is a pivotal, strategic, senior role. The post holder will build upon an established, well-structured and successful development programme and will set the strategy to take the school’s philanthropic endeavours to the next level.

The Director of Development will be responsible for building and growing significant relationships between the school and its wider community in support of a range of development goals, including a commitment to build upon its sizeable bursary programme and to continue a track record of capital investment on its site. The postholder will also have oversight of the school’s comprehensive alumni relations programme, including the Fettes Career Partnership.

The role reports to the Head, Helen Harrison, and leads a high-performing team of five. The Director of Development will serve on the school’s Senior Management Team and will be a professional and engaging ambassador for Fettes at alumni receptions in the UK and across the globe.

This is an exciting role for an experienced fundraiser with outstanding leadership abilities and the ability to build a strong level of rapport at all levels. The successful candidate will bring a proven track record in securing philanthropic gifts from major donors together with a thoughtful approach to developing donor relations.

The ideal candidate will be highly-articulate with strong emotional intelligence, strategic ability and the presence and intellect to operate at the highest levels. Crucially, you will have a deep-rooted passion for the power of education and the value of life-changing bursaries, together with a strong sense of integrity and an affinity with the aims and vision of Fettes College.
