?? Productivity at work is a subjective concept and can be defined in many ways depending on the context and the individual’s goals.
??Workers who feel very productive are more likely to say that they enjoy their work and feel valued for it, than those who don't feel productive. They are also more likely to feel well-trained, and loyal to their organization.
?? Most employees rate themselves as being more productive than their colleagues, but it's impossible to know whether that is actually true or not.
Employees are also more likely to believe those they worked with most often, or those in roles they were more familiar with, were more productive over those in roles that might be less visible within the organization.
??IT and software employees rate their HR departments as the most productive with 82% rating their HR teams as productive.
?? Where/how people work also influences their perceptions of productivity, with in-person employees shown to be far less trusting of their remote and hybrid colleagues when it comes to productivity and getting work done, according to a new interesting research published by Ciphr using data ?? from 1,000 UK employees, working at organizations with at least 26 employees, in June 2023.
?Pros of being productive at work
People who self-rate themselves as very productive are more likely to:
?? Feel engaged/motivated at work (70%)
?? Enjoy their job/have job satisfaction (71%)
?? Feel valued and appreciated for their work (61%)
?? Think that they have received all the training that they need to do their job well (74%)
?? Feel loyal to their organization (67%)
?? Employees who feel less engaged or motivated by their work are less inclined to view other people's productivity favorably even if they still see themselves as being productive or very productive.
?Employees always feel more productive than their colleagues
Researchers noticed that most employees rate themselves as being more productive than their colleagues.
?? There is a certain degree of distrust among employees that their colleagues are being as productive at work as they could be.
?Disconnect between management and employee perspectives on productivity
Researchers also found a significant disconnect between how people in leadership roles view their own productivity, compared to the average employee.
?? While near all of those in senior management self-rated themselves as being productive or very productive at work, just 67% of employees rated their leaders as productive or very productive.

?Is the HR department less productive?
Researchers found employees in transportation and warehousing, finance and insurance, legal services, and government and public administration are the least likely to call their HR departments productive or very productive (57%, on average).
IT and software workers are much more positive, however, with 82% rating their HR teams as productive.
?Factors Impacting Employee Productivity
Researchers found that Employee Engagement is shown to have a real impact on how people feel about different aspects of their jobs and organizations.
?? The more engaged and motivated employees are in their work, the more productive they believe that they, their teammates, their colleagues, their managers and the leaders of their organization are.
?? Conversely, unengaged workers are much more negative about the productivity levels of their managers and leaders than those who feel motivated by their work.
?Where people work also influences their perceptions of productivity
Researchers found that in-person workers report themselves to be the most productive or very productive and have significantly less trust in their remote and hybrid colleagues when it comes to productivity and getting work done.

This insightful research demonstrates that Employee Engagement has a real impact on how people feel about different aspects of their work and their organization. The finding about where people work also influences their perceptions of productivity, is very interesting. Regarding productivity of HR department, HR must work harder to demonstrate its value throughout the organization, through clear measurement and KPIs, as well as engagement across the business. Finally, there is no secret, the more you motivate your employees, the more productive they feel...
