There is video of Indian Foreign Affairs minister S. Jaishankar where he balances very tough one sided question with lot of tact and humorous assertiveness without getting offended and uses humor to diffuse the tension in the air displaying highest level of diplomacy.
That video compelled me to take a look at how diplomacy is a key skill for effective leadership. Well diplomacy is not just yes to everything, it is also taking care of your own interest or just take care of your interest only.
It is defined as the art of managing relationships and resolving conflicts with tact and respect, diplomacy encompasses negotiation, mediation, and consensus-building. Synonyms like tact, conciliation, and negotiation underscore its importance in fostering a collaborative and respectful environment.?

Software projects like many others, often involve cross-functional teams with diverse expertise and viewpoints majorly involving lot of humans and their emotions. Effective diplomacy helps bridge these differences, fostering a cooperative environment where all perspectives are considered. This collaborative spirit is crucial for successful project outcomes and innovation.?
Managing stakeholder Relationships?
Interactions with stakeholders are a regular part of day to day jobs. Diplomatic skills are essential for maintaining positive relationships, managing expectations, and resolving conflicts. This approach not only helps in addressing issues effectively and also builds long-term trust and satisfaction.?

How to Balance Diplomacy with Assertiveness?
As somebody who is known to be bold, passionate and assertive, my pragmatism has grown o embrace diplomacy as one of the skills. My biggest challenge though this journey was to unlearn the common perspective of miss used or abused meaning of diplomacy and learn how to not loose my integral core ethics and learn the diplomacy is in its truest and purest form.
Below is how I learnt to keep my assertiveness yet become diplomatic enough to build consensus.
