EXCLUSIVE: Dior Teams With Thebe Magugu for Charity?Project
When?Thebe Magugu ?was a fashion student in Johannesburg, little did he know that a second-year assignment would turn out to be a dress rehearsal for one of the most high-profile — and purposeful — collaborations of his career so far.
Students at the LISOF fashion school were tasked to interpret Christian?Dior ’s New Look, the pinch-waisted, fan-skirted look that caused a sensation in 1947. Magugu made his jacket in red, with “very small, rounded shoulders” and many darts, and the skirt a swirling, full-circle style.
Fast-forward and Magugu, now 29, was tasked by?Dior ’s?Maria Grazia Chiuri ?to reinterpret anew the New Look, all in aid of the?Charlize Theron ?Africa Outreach Project, a charity that aids South African youth.

Spring 2023 Fashion Trend: Glam?Utility
Y2K influence was still in its peak for the spring 2023 season, bringing with it a revival of the glam-utility trend not seen since the early Aughts.
From satin jumpsuits to ballgown skirts with cargo pockets, utilitarian fashion never felt so chic.
“We were witness to a dressed-up, elevated, chic and sophisticated aesthetic that dominated the collections. There was an overall feeling of positivity and optimism throughout the week,” said Simon Longland, head of menswear and womenswear at Harrods about the season.

Lindsay Peoples and the ‘Fearless Usefulness’ of The?Cut
The Cut's editor in chief Lindsay Peoples is on a mission to recast the site's coverage of fashion, style and culture.
“People never understand that when you are a person of color, you just have a different responsibility,” said Lindsay Peoples. “Everyone has to choose how much of that they take on. It is something that I literally wake up and think about every single day,” she continued.
If The Cut is very much Peoples’ day job, she also walks the walk in her moonlight hours. In 2020, Peoples and fashion industry publicist Sandrine Charles founded the Black in Fashion Council, a nonprofit that promotes diversity in the fashion, beauty and media industries. The organization has partnered with Color of Change to create an industrywide vetted directory of creatives, including set designers, groomers, hairstylists and makeup artists. BIFC’s Corporate Equity has enlisted pledges from close to 100 fashion brands to hire and promote people of color.

2 年Honestly, with regard to Telfar vs Hermès; it is easy to sell 10,000 mid range (maybe) items vs 100 luxury items. Paper planes and 747s can both fly, that doesn’t mean they’re the same.
