Dino’s Paradox (By Jolomi Fawehinmi, adapted by Kayode Osokoya) - every Wednesday

So I have been at the passport office in ikeja since 9am and still waiting to be attended to but something really baffles me. An immigration officer told me I had to stand or put one of my kids on my lap, She said it in a condescending manner. I wonder what will happen when she gets promoted.

I have paid for my kids to use the toilet several times today.

I told the toilet attendant that my daughter needed to use the toilet .He said it costs 100 naira.

I went back with my other daughter and heard him tell someone it costs 50 naira or 100 naira depending on what one needs to do, then I immediately reminded him that I was charged 100 naira an hour earlier.

He said I used the word toilet so he assumed it was No.2 so he said 100. He then deducted 50 naira from my new bill. So far, I have spent 350 naira on 7 visits.

I walked up to an immigration officer to ask why we had to pay and when he explained the situation to me, my heart sank. He also directed me to the service desk and I have also complained. I have listened to their version too. One officer said she minimises her water intake so she doesn't go to the toilet often while at work.

If I was giving the money to the guy as a tip, I will not be this upset. His job is quite tough. He is running an outsourced toilet and counting the number of people per visit.

I cannot describe the size of the toilet. I am torn between calling it a match box or single door wardrobe this small in my life.

When I paid to use the toilet in a particular restaurant in The Hague, it costs €1.50 for non-customers. I found it weird but it was really clean. Then I get this in a federal government establishment in my beloved country in 2019 when things should be better

(As usual, kindly brain autocorrect all typos and errors)
