Din Tai Fung Leaders Conference 2023: Purpose-Driven, Mission-Focused

As we reflect on our recent first company-wide Leaders Conference at Din Tai Fung, it's impossible not to feel a profound sense of gratitude for the journey that brought us here, and excitement for all that lies ahead. This event was more than just a gathering; it was a celebration of our rich history and our future ahead, as well as the revealing of our company purpose: Bring people together to inspire appreciation of culture

The story of Din Tai Fung began in 1958 with our founder, Mr. Bing-Yi Yang. What started as a humble cooking oil retail shop in Taiwan has blossomed into an internationally recognized brand, revered for its culinary excellence and warm hospitality. Mr. Yang’s vision and dedication laid the foundation for what Din Tai Fung is today, and serves as a testament to the enduring power of his commitment to quality and service. We dedicate the inaugural conference in loving memory to our founder.

A particularly memorable moment at our Leaders Conference was the construction of an 8’x10’ mural by our US team. This collaborative effort not only symbolized our unity but also visually chronicled our mission: to set the standard in quality and consistency, to honor tradition and embrace progress, and to take care of our team, guests, and communities. In staying true to our mission – what we do every day– we are able to live our ‘why’ and bring people together, through food, and to inspire appreciation of all cultures. As we painted, we were reminded of how each of us are an integral part of a big picture, with each stroke and color representing our milestones and growth and with the final product serving as a symbol of what we can accomplish when we work in synchronicity together.

This spirit of community care and support was further exemplified as we kicked off our community giving initiative at the conference to support our newest neighborhood of Portland, announcing donations of $10,000 each to Taking Ownership PDX and We Belong PDX. Taking Ownership PDX, an organization that helps Black homeowners rebuild and repair their homes, aligns perfectly with our commitment to uplift local communities. Similarly, We Belong PDX, which supports the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of underserved youth, resonates with our ethos of caring for those around us. These contributions reflect our team’s dedication not just to culinary excellence, but to making a meaningful impact to the communities we serve.

Looking ahead, 2024 marks another significant chapter for Din Tai Fung, with the opening of new locations in New York City, Downtown Disney, and Vancouver. These expansions are not just about increasing our footprint; they are a reflection of our commitment to bringing Mr. Yang’s legacy and the unique Din Tai Fung experience to new communities and cultures. As we continue to grow, we are ever mindful of our roots and the values that have guided us.
