Diminishing Value of Awards
Has mediocrity become the new excellence in Global Mobility? In today's ever competitive world, recognition and accolades hold great significance. One key type of accolade are awards that are seen as symbols of special achievement, validating hard work and dedication towards specific initiatives. Over the years, there has been an overabundance of awards given in Global Mobility and interesting selection processes that bring into question their true value. Have we?reached a point where their value is being diluted? Unfortunately, those who are truly exceptional are being hurt by this dilution. "It is important that I mention that my blog is not as a result of simply my opinion, but from a number of folks and organizations who have been the recipients of mediocrity awards."
Don’t get me wrong, awards undoubtedly serve a VERY-VERY important purpose and provide ENORMOUS value in recognizing exceptional achievements. However, when organizations and companies feel compelled to create awards to maintain relevance or to attract attention it loses its true value to both the recipients as well as the audience. ?
Have we lost exclusivity in the award selection process? ?Unfortunately, the ones who are most harmed are indeed those who truly do exceptional work and get lost in the sea of mediocrity.??When awards lose their exclusivity or the selection process becomes somewhat questionable, their impact become less meaningful. ??In fact, I would argue that it may result in the exact opposite of their expected goal.? The exclusiveness of awards and the method on how folks are selected helps preserve the integrity and prestige of the accolades, allowing deserving individuals to take pride in their achievements and fostering a culture that values exceptional. Of course, there is always some subjectivity, but to be truly meaningful, data, stories and examples should always support the awards.

Awards have to be based on real measured data In a competitive arena and not on the Gold sponsor at the annual convention
