Welcome to the 2024 Election—the Year of Negativity.
Like the weather, everyone’s talking about it, and no one is doing anything about it.
?It does have a negative effect on your work culture.?
The 24/7 information channels create a constant media feeding frenzy of irrelevant, trivial snatches of negative spin hurled by candidates at one another. This hourly barrage of unsubstantiated negativity drains positivity from your teams and diminishes the productivity and engagement you desire in the work culture.
?People and profits stop growing.
?But it doesn’t have to be that way.
?Here are 3 strategies to Work Positive in this negative election year:
How CURIOUS are you about culture benefits?
Curious about figuring out how to create a positive work culture?
A culture that improves your productivity and engagement up to 30%?

?Small Hinge 1: Switch your morning media off.
?How quickly do you turn on the morning news after you wake up?
?There’s something you need to know. It’s the dirty little secret of all news media regardless of which ideological fence they’re on. Their mantra is: if it bleeds, it leads. That is, the more blood and tragedy, the higher up in the show’s lineup of stories it appears. Note the catastrophic order next time you watch. The most blood leads.
?What are you thinking after you watch? How do you feel? I bet your first work conversations about that morning sound like:
?“Hey, did you hear about that mass shooting?”
?“How ‘bout Congress?”
?“The stock market futures are a bloodbath of sell-offs again today. I’ll never get to retire.”
?Make no mistake. Network executives don’t care about your mental state as you prepare for work and even less about your company’s work culture.
?If you must keep up with the latest and worst news, use an app on your phone or other device. Read the first paragraph or two of articles you choose. Limit your intake. Use pull media that gives you editorial license over what you mentally consume.
