DiMiMED conference 2022

DiMiMED conference 2022

??On Monday, I will present a lecture on Tropical Medicine and Infectious Diseases for the Operational Medic at the Disaster and Military Medicine conference. I spent some time researching the needs of the military and disaster response to see the current trends and requirements for addressing tropical and infectious diseases. There are some exciting developments in the Ukraine war. Russian conscripts are forced into extremely cramped sleeping conditions perfect for the effective spread of respiratory infections. I remember in the army, there was a rule that your head had to be at least 1.5m away from any other soldier whilst sleeping. This minimised aerial transmission of diseases. History shows that widespread infectious diseases can stop entire armies.

??There will be three CoROM faculty and staff speaking at the conference. Dr John Quinn will discuss Prehospital Lessons Learned from the war in Ukraine. Tim Berrow has been teaching CoROM for six years, and he will give a demonstration on haemostatic dressings.

??Last year I presented a lecture on Covid response and how that is changing our patient assessments in a tactical setting. This year, I wanted to challenge myself to talk about tropical medicine and submitted an abstract on this topic. I am honoured that the conference organisers accepted my abstract and invited me to present.

??This conference will be on the cutting edge of current European military medicine if anyone is in the Dusseldorf area early next week. Come and join us.
