The Dilemma of Finding your Element
We all like to live a happy fulfilled life. Professional or work life occupies a major part of our lives. I was listening to a talk by Ken Robinson on Finding your Element where he mentions that if we are good at something and we really love to do something and are passionate about it and if fortunately that something becomes our work or profession then we don't have to work a day in our lives. However finding our element is not that simple and straightforward as we need to reflect and delve deeper to find it.
If we do a simple google search we will get to know that nearly 30 percent of the world population lives below the poverty line. For the people living below the poverty line managing their basic needs become the prime focus and unfortunately they cannot think of finding their element. However what about those people who have their basic needs met what is stopping them from finding their element. Peer pressure, what their family or society will say their own fear and insecurities or the never ending greed and rat race. A bigger car a nicer house ,bank loans which leaves with you with no option then to spend a major part of your life doing something which you don't like. We need to ask ourselves how much is enough as one saying goes that "Greed is Permanent Slavery".
Financial success alone does not guarantee a happy fulfilled life. If we don't have a choice and we are not finding fulfilment at work then what should we do? May be we can try finding fulfilment outside work do something that we love - volunteer, invest in our hobbies, find some time to do something which makes us happy from inside. Being happy and fulfilled does not impact only us but it impacts the people around us as well. It is a responsibility we have towards our peers, colleagues and loved ones.
Wishing a happy & fulfilled life to everyone and may all of us find our element.
