DigiYatra to Launch at 14 Additional Airports by April 2024

Frequent travelers have a reason to rejoice as the Ministry of Civil Aviation announces the expansion of the DigiYatra program. By the end of April 2024, an additional 14 airports will be equipped with this advanced technology, facilitating a smoother, contactless experience for domestic flyers through facial recognition technology (FRT).

Expansion Details

The upcoming rollout will increase the total number of DigiYatra-enabled airports to 28, enhancing the accessibility of this technology across India. The new airports joining the network are:

  1. Bagdogra
  2. Bhubaneswar
  3. Chandigarh
  4. Chennai
  5. Coimbatore
  6. Dabolim
  7. Indore
  8. Mangalore
  9. Patna
  10. Raipur
  11. Ranchi
  12. Srinagar
  13. Trivandrum
  14. Vishakhapatnam

These airports will join the existing locations that currently support DigiYatra, which include major hubs such as Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata among others.

Features and Privacy

DigiYatra is designed to streamline passenger flow through airports by allowing travelers to pass through security checkpoints swiftly without the need for physical boarding passes or IDs. It works by scanning the traveler's face to match with pre-registered details, ensuring quick verification.

Addressing privacy concerns, the program ensures that all personal data remains encrypted on the user's device and is shared only with authorized airport personnel.

How to Use DigiYatra

To use DigiYatra, travelers need to:

  • Register: Install the DigiYatra app and sign up using Aadhaar-based verification along with a selfie.
  • Link Boarding Pass: Link the boarding pass with the DigiYatra profile via the app.
  • Facial Recognition: At the airport e-gate, scan the barcoded boarding pass. The system then captures the passenger's face for verification.
  • Proceed through Security: Once verified, travelers can go through the e-gate and complete the security check using the standard process.

Future Developments

The DigiYatra program is continually evolving to improve the user experience and is exploring possibilities to extend its benefits to international travel. This program is crucial in accommodating the growing volume of domestic air traffic in India and promoting a more efficient travel experience.
