A global study found that only 25% of organizations had transformed into digital businesses, 41% were on the transformative journey, and 34% invested more time talking about the trend than they did acting on it. Many business leaders mistakenly believe that digitizing processes will result in digitalization or digital transformation.
So what is Digitization, Digitalization and Digital Transformation?
Digitization refers to creating a digital representation of physical objects or conversion of analog to digital. For example, when you move your physical hard copy records to a computer that’s digitization.
Digitalization is the use of digital technologies and digitized data to transform how customers and companies engage and interact, and create new business revenue streams. For example, public administration is moving away from accepting paper documents and moving towards accepting documents online.
Digital transformation is more about people. It requires organizational changes that are customer-centric, backed by executive leadership, driven by challenges in corporate culture, and leveraging of technologies that empower and enable employees. For example, improving customer engagements by enriching data.
