Digitisation won’t crack it - Why tech alone isn’t the golden egg of change

The UK property sector has long been criticised for its inefficiencies, lack of transparency, and outdated processes. Recent government initiatives, such as the plan to digitise property data to expedite home buying, highlight a significant shift towards modernisation. However, while these efforts are commendable, they address only part of the problem.

The Real Challenge

A primary issue plaguing the property market is the communication gap among stakeholders - estate agents, conveyancers, mortgage brokers, and, most importantly, home movers. This disconnect often leads to confusion, delays, and a general sense of mistrust. A recent article from Open Access Government emphasises that a lack of integration across technology solutions makes it difficult for different parties to collaborate effectively.

The assumption is that the challenge to be addressed is speed. However, this approach will be futile unless the fundamental issue of trust is resolved first.

Bridging the Gap

We have to recognise that technology alone isn’t the panacea. Our platform is designed to empower professionals by facilitating seamless communication and providing educational resources, all centred around the home mover’s experience. By offering a unified space where all parties can collaborate, we aim to transform the property transaction into a transparent and efficient process.

The bells and whistles are nice, but let’s solve the fundamental problem first.

Empowerment Through Collaboration

It’s essential to understand that data and technology are tools, and powerful ones at that, but tools nonetheless. The true transformation occurs when industry professionals leverage these tools to foster collaboration and rebuild trust with clients. As highlighted by Local Digital, unconnected technology systems that can’t share data lead to operational inefficiencies and poorer outcomes for residents.

My Call to Action

The path forward requires a collective effort. Professionals must be willing to adapt, embrace technological advancements, but prioritise open communication. By doing so, we can address the deep-rooted issues that have long hindered the property sector and create an environment where home movers feel informed, confident, and valued.

This is the change we should all strive for.

So while digitisation initiatives mark a positive step, the real change lies in how we, as an industry, choose to utilise these advancements. By placing collaboration and trust at the forefront of this change, supported by platforms like Open Moove (www.openmoove.com), we can redefine the property transaction experience for good.

Information, communication and transparency are key, that's for sure Ross Alexander McKenzie. We continually encounter a huge 'Wiifm' culture (what's in it for me) throughout the industry which is disappointing and only serves to crush innovation. Whilst I am not so naive to think making money is not important, I wish more was done with the client experience front and centre. Stakeholders that bang a drum asking for things to improve should look at themself and ask how have they improved the industry without just a financial motive?

Funnily enough the Symbiotic Service Technology Company was designed to do just this; to bring all the competing and disparate services involved with the home moving process onto an industry standardising system that enables communication, irrespective of #proptech , #legaltech #fintech or #vantech ( the removers who end up picking up the pieces on completion day after the professionals have cause the chaos)
