‘If You’re A Gamer, Your Country Needs You’
Defence Secretary John Healey revealed recently at the Labour Party Conference that he has new plans to boost the UK’s cyber defence system.?
He announced a new fast track recruitment route for the cyber defence sector of the Armed Forces that is specifically targeting expert gamers and those who know how to code, due to their existing cybersecurity skills.?
This comes after a tumultuous year of cyber attacks on the UK and rising large-scale international cyber threats due to the Russian/Ukrainian war.
Is this a call of desperation from the Defence Secretary, or will this plan actually increase recruitment rates in the military? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments of this post.?
UK Government Re-classifies Data Centres As Critical National Infrastructure
In a new move to help boost the UK’s cybersecurity status, the government has designated data centres in the country as ‘critical national infrastructure,’ meaning that they will ultimately have more protections.?
This is only the third time ever the UK has granted this designation; the Space and Defence sectors were awarded the status in 2015.?
It is hoped that this latest development will deter cyberattackers from hitting high-profile industries and infrastructure, like the NHS and banking institutions.?
Do you think the new designation will help lower cybersecurity risks? Let us know in the comments of this post.?
