Grok now open-source - Musk brings dishonor to OpenAI

In keeping with his continuing litigation against OpenAI, which he is suing for straying from its original intent, Elon Musk has declared that Grok, a competitor to ChatGPT, will be open-sourced this week.

• Launched last year, Grok is a chatbot that uses X (previously Twitter) to gather information and answers unorthodox queries. It can be yours for $16 per month with an X subscription.
• Eleven days before to Musk's decision to make Grok open-source, he had sued OpenAI, accusing it of abandoning its goal to promote open-source AI for the "benefit of humanity."
• He didn't say which features of Grok he intends to open-source, but by doing so, the public will have access to the code that the chatbot is based on.

Why important? Musk, like Meta and Mistral, has publicly released their code. He is a strong believer that open-sourcing would accelerate innovation in the area, and he has consistently supported this practice (many of Tesla's patents are open-source).

Walmart takes on Google in generative AI competition

Walmart has taken a daring step by using generative AI to transform online shopping and event planning. The retail behemoth's long-term goal is to become customers' go-to place for all their event planning needs. The quick enhancement of search capabilities, driven by generative AI, has been praised by Walmart CEO Doug McMillon. This achievement changes the future of search features and threatens Google. Google is being asked about its future plans as Walmart becomes known for its innovative spirit. The race for first place in search engines is heating up, and Walmart's new AI search engine looks like it could shake things up.

Using authors novels to train AI was the basis for Nvidias lawsuit

Nvidia is facing legal trouble because of its advanced artificial intelligence technology. Brian Keene, Abdi Nazemian, and Stewart O'Nan are the authors who have taken legal action against the corporation. Allegedly, Nvidia trained its NeMo AI on around 196,640 of their books without their permission. Last October, copyright difficulties caused the training that was supposed to improve NeMo's language skills to come to a standstill. In a lawsuit that has been ongoing for the past three years, the authors are now seeking recompense for American writers whose works were used without their knowledge. Nvidia is the most recent tech company to be scrutinized in the continuing discussion around AI and copyright, which is highlighted by their combined action. The lawsuit has had no effect on Nvidia's skyrocketing market value, which has made it an attractive investment option. On the other hand, the business is being mum about it.

Robotic dolls developed in South Korea to assist the elderly

A South Korean business called Hydrol AI has released an artificial intelligence (AI) companion doll that costs $1,800. The goal is to help the country's aging population feel less lonely.

• Using LLMs, Hydrol's AI doll can carry on whole conversations and offer emotional support to elderly individuals who live alone.
• A few of the features include music, health coaching, prescription reminders, and the ability to notify caretakers of problems through built-in sensors.
• So far, municipal administrations in South Korea have deployed roughly 7,000 units of the dolls.
• The business asserts that a study group of nine thousand or more customers saw a decrease in sadness and an improvement in medication adherence after using its dolls.

Why important? The world's "silver tsunami" is hitting South Korea hard due to the country's falling birthrate and rapidly aging population. Artificial intelligence (AI) companions might be the answer to the growing problem of elderly isolation caused by the population squeeze.
