Digital Twins are Not Just for Buildings

Wouldn't it be funny if a tech company did a?keynote event and you later found out that the keynote was a digital CEO. In April of this year that is precisely what happened.?Nvidia had a GTC event where CEO Jensen Huang was represented by a digital twin. The digital twin had been created by?Nvidia’s own Omniverse technology.

We are now at the point where technology is helping us to create virtual people, creating virtual roads and even digital buildings. As it continues to grow and change the IoT and Digital twins will be used to make nearly everything in the world able to be virtual as well as physical.

Nvidia let everyone know a week or so ago that this is what they had done and it was nothing short of amazing. OF course the digital CEO is just the beginning of that. Whether its Jensen or his digital twin he's probably quite well compensated for his time. Conversely you can see the massive savings when you review the BMW production factory Nvidia created using its Ominverse solution.

Real world deployment of the production line would have cost hundreds of millions of dollars before even one vehicle was built. That would be the least of it. With the many challenges and mistakes to amend pilling more expense on top of more expense the inefficiencies and other issues would not have been found for months if not longer. The digital twin gives us the means to find those problems well before they cost big money in the real world deployment.

That is precisely why the digital twin concept is far and away ahead of the competition or the real world. In their work with Nvidia the BMW team was actually able to model the line on their physical plans and to ensure that things would work out. It became a true working model of the vehicle line and even had virtual people at the virtual stations.

Today other companies besides Nvidia are seeing the value of the digital twin concept. Companies are using digital twinning techonology for buildings, for roadways and for many other types of procedures.

While this is not a new concept it is one that many companies had not yet embraced and now are realizing that the cost and time savings are substantial. There is even a digital twin of an actual driving space in Germany. Training the AI in their self driving cars is faster and saver in a simulated roadway and saves money and lives.
