Construction Technology Awards 2023 announces Digital Twin Project of the Year shortlist

The Construction Technology Awards is the region's only dedicated ConTech awards.

This award category recognizes the implementation of digital twin projects during design, construction or operational phases to improve asset delivery or performance. Category is open to contractors, consultants, developers, or project owners (not technology providers), but should acknowledge the roles of the main project stakeholders.

Omani Digital Twin Reality Model

This large-scale digital twin project by Khatib & Alami (K&A) in Oman involved capturing and modeling 250 km2 of challenging topography in Muscat, Oman, within a very tight timeframe. The client wanted a model to develop responses to various issues, from environmental risks (such as flooding) to security and emergency response.

K&A's solution enables extensive modeling and analysis of all types of scenarios, such as predicting "red zone" areas where natural disasters are likely to wreak the most damage, establishing evacuation routes, identifying key points of interest, and offering decision-makers one large view of the whole area to help with evacuation analysis, city planning, and the detection of alternative routes.

The state-of-the-art project was completed in 90 days (35 days ahead of schedule), resulting in outstanding quality and accuracy for K&A's client at reduced costs. The digital model provides extremely detailed, high-quality visualisations from which detailed analysis can be undertaken, enabling long-term strategies and solutions to be developed for various scenarios.

Downtown Views II

Emaar Properties Downtown Views II (DTVII) is a high-rise residential and commercial development in the downtown district, Dubai. The project comprises three high-rise towers on a common four-level podium, including the ground floor with one level basement.?

Tower 1 is 67 (G+67+R), Tower 2 is 62 (G+62+R) and Tower 3 is 54 (G+54+R) floors. The project duration is 35 months with a total contract value of AED1,290,000,000. It is set to deliver a total of 1,509 high-end new apartment units of one-to-four-bedroom types, offices, retail shops, and a host of amenities befitting the luxury lifestyle.?

Located in the sought-after address of Downtown, Dubai opposite the iconic Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Mall, the countless challenges of the project are rooted in the sheer size of the development, tight logistical area within a prime location, coupled with the tight project duration.?

Grand Egyptian Museum

The digital twin implementation in the Grand Egyptian Museum was completed in the following stages:

As Built stage through to the final account whether by extracting the accurate drawing from the models that reflect the site condition and quantity extraction schedules after long process of coordination between more than 150 subcontractors, using different software such as Tekla, Inventor, SAB, IFC Mesh Lab, n4ce, 3D CAD and Revit.

Each contractor provided their coordinating as built model after implementing all required parameters for the Facilities Management, by the operation and facility management manual for accessibility. The Facilities Management parameters added for all trades and for elements to facilitate the operator job to have a full detailed model digitalised.

Laser Scanning was required for the Solar Boat transfer from the old location near Giza Pyramids to the final location in the Solar Boat building in the Grand Egyptian Museum.
