Digital Transformation and the New Era of Government

Throughout my career, much of my work has focused on bringing innovative solutions to the public sector. I’ve had the opportunity to transform how government supports our country in a variety of roles from developing aerospace and marine systems supporting the Department of Defense to leading teams that deliver advanced information, communication and technology services to DoD and Civilian customers.

Emerging technology breakthroughs are revolutionizing how the government delivers services to its citizens and warfighters and how those services are consumed, from how the Census compiles data to how the warfighter communicates in battle. Each innovation in the government’s digital transformation is a step toward making the United States a safer and smarter place to live.

AT&T continues to make great strides in leading transformation and modernization for the federal government from collaborating with NASA on researching traffic management solutions for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) to piloting an IoT-connected “Smart Base” for the Air Force at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama where AT&T is working to bring the power of IoT to their base operations and infrastructure.

Our Armed Forces act in environments that didn’t exist a decade ago, with the threat landscape widening every day. That means the modern warfighter requires flexibility, agility, resiliency and a broad portfolio of capabilities, not only for command and control, but also for the mission and business systems that support these forces. These systems not only have to work in the ever-changing present, but also in the unknowable future.

The DoD is very well positioned to tap into the innovation and transformation being led by AT&T. Ultimately, the ability of the DoD to successfully execute its mission depends on smart investments in its networks and communications. The critical nature of this mission requires the DoD Network of the Future Powered by Commercial Networks and Innovation to deliver the transformative capabilities required to successfully support U.S. forces. With this, the DoD will ensure a communications infrastructure capable of protecting the security of the nation.

By leveraging the time and money already at the disposal of the private sector, the DoD can integrate, innovate and accelerate critical infrastructure more effectively and efficiently. Whether AT&T is helping civilian agencies like NASA bolster its Deep Space Network with high-speed VPN and the Centers for Disease Control modernize their legacy communication infrastructure, or unifying and modernizing communications capabilities for nearly 1 million users globally for the Army, the digital transformation is already underway and AT&T is ready to help the DoD transform their networks to better support warfighting.
