Digital Transformation in HR ? Is it People or Process or Technology ?

With the rise of technology disruptions and emerging new tech trends , it is time for HR team also to step forward to leverage on these technologies . But before the HR team take any initiatives what should be their focus area? Is it People or Process or Technology advantage ?

Lets have a check on this aspect , can you Imagine any organization without people? Answer will be "NO" , can you imagine organization without process ? Answer is "NO" , so the underlying fact is People Vs Process must be the key focus area to create a technology driven organization that foster the positive work culture and ease of process at all levels in the organization.

HR must be a Business Acumen to clearly understand the Business Model, Vision, Mission and Objectives of the organization. Have a detailed study of Company Business model, Priorities, Value addition, Product strategy, Services response, Top Management and leadership capability to drive the Digital mastery journey in an organization

HR should now see a big picture by envisioning future models of work - keep it more clear to generate the urge for driving change management by involving the employees in this change management journey - Keep an eye on the various tech trends that is shaping up the future of work : Bear in Mind the following key aspects while on the change management journey within and outside the organization

  1. Flexibility : Create a workplace that ensure flexible working conditions be it a. Office based b. Work from Home c. Hybrid work mode . What is more important is to align the priorities and Objectives with the team and give them the choice of work along with responsibilities to drive the projects and goals in win-win situations. Technology can be chosen in such a way that will foster the culture of collaborative working model along with continuous communication about the Journey

2. Adaptability : Adapting to the culture of company must be the priority for every HR and reinforce the positive work culture among the employees. Process must be revisited to ensure that it is adaptable even for scalability of future trends. Focus on technology study must be done to ensure that the employee experience is not impacted with new technology adaptations.

3. Innovative : HR team must focus on innovative workplace that will boost the culture of innovation, creativity among the employees. Make sure that technology is used in this aspect that drive the innovative work practices, and Reward the Employees who contribute above and beyond to drive this innovation strategies individually or as a team. Challenge environment will sometime help to fix the potential issues by having regular Hackathon, Facilitating Innovation projects hub , Exploration Hubs etc.

4. Well-Being is the Welcome gate : Apart from the technology transformation, it is equally the priorities for HR team to stay always focused on the Employee wellness programs- Mental and Physical well-being by creating more options like streamlined and ease of claim Insurance policies, Employee Assistance programs integrated with 1:1 as continuous process, Technologies like Internet of Things (IoT) can be leveraged to monitor the employee wellness and well-being of the employees physically and mentally. Regular Health check-ups for employee and their families must be the priority.

5. Upskilling and Competency building : HR must ensure that the competency building must be kept on high priority - Provide more opportunities for Learning, Upskilling along with creating opportunities in terms of Projects that will help employees to implement and test their skills practically - Technical or Non-technical competency based project mapping is the key. Gamification can be used to boost the interest levels for employees and leverage on the Learn- Relearn -Unlearn kind of Learning curve

6. Persona or User Experience : Stakeholder experience is the key - HR team must define the process rules and guidelines keeping in mind about enhancing the user experience and ease of doing the process , Proper workflow , Unbiased approval and decision making options, Integrated tool with all data iview- Self service and Manager service based , chat bot and process bot to support the queries and create regular awareness for employees

Conclusion : People matters always - Employees are the real assets of an organization - Reward - Recognize- Retain is the mantra that will keep the secret of any organization success . Process and Technology are the two pillars that must always be built to support the people and drive positive work culture

The Word HR Transformation is an abouse in HR. It is used vigorously by most of HRMS implementation. It is used more than innovation for to make money. Most of the case you end up putting people to manage hrms product that Transformation. I have not used work day but have used and implemented most of leader in Indian Market.

The answer for me is always the same: it's the people; without them process and/or technology do not even make sense.
