Digital Transformation in GCCs: Job Market to Get Bullish on Niche Skills

Let's face it! Hiring numbers are plummeting to a record low in Global Capability Centers (GCCs) in India, making the job market more volatile than Indian Stocks during the exit polls. However, the GCC job market is about to become bullish for niche skills related to IOT and AI/ML.

There is no second thought about Global Capability Centers taking a special place in India's growth. As per recent reports, there are more than 1600 GCCs in India, contributing billions per year to the nation's economy. The numbers are projected to grow even further in the coming years. However, disturbances in the West have brought tough times for GCCs in the East. It has made the majority of GCCs take steps with more caution than ever when it comes to cost-cutting and business expansion.

Once the mass hirers, GCCs this year wanted to go soft on filling their vacancies due to various cost-cutting measures to survive the volatile market today. However, not all slumps in the hiring process can be related to cost cuts. As per recent surveys, Engineering Research & Development, IT and BPM are in high demand. The reason is none other than the increasing importance of digital transformation across the GCC landscape. The importance is soaring high even in non-tech GCCs such as automotive, healthcare and pharma, retail and energy.

Around 70% of GCCs established in India in 2023 belong to software and IOT verticals, and the majority of them settled in Bangalore. Artificial intelligence , web applications, digital innovation, and cyber security have become the key focal areas of those new GCCs. Such statistics demand more experts with rich domain knowledge and prompt the exploration of new upskilling activities.
