Digital Transformation in Disability Services
Love or hate it, technology is probably here to stay. Vieb is a technology product that connects the dots and helps Disability Services evidence their work. I often speak with Service or Business Development Managers who are frustrated that their service espouses innovation, but the update of technology to enhance their service efficiency and allow improvements keeps being pushed to the back of the ‘paper’ pile. In short, they struggle to get the board, well … on board, and this is not uncommon
Since COVID-19, it is well known that the world has more readily adapted to increased technological innovations. The CARE-IT Survey of Aged Care Organisations found that 65% have accelerated their adoption of telehealth and telecare technologies because of COVID-19, and 62% have introduced them in response to the pandemic.?
The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) released the NDIS Assistive Technology Strategy (2021-23), and although it was focused on Assistance Technology, the survey revealed a slow albeit positive update of technology implementation to help participants.?
What the survey didn’t focus on was the providers willingness to digitalize and ultimately streamline their processes for the future. What is worse is that financial benchmarking reports for the Disability Sector (via the National Disability Services annual check-up), indicated that one third of providers still did not make a profit even though there had been a significant financial prop up by governments and that the majority of these providers who are not-for-profit have enviable tax concessions. Thankfully the sentiment now becoming more positive with one provider I spoke to recently stating that their focus for 2022 is to create efficiencies and reduce costs, streamline office processes, remove duplications, create less paperwork, and just generally make interaction easier between themselves and their participants.?Digitalization can do all this
What is your focus for the year ahead? Does your technology allow you to;?
? Analyze trends and patterns across all key activities and services??
? Inform decision-making, and measure participant outcomes and financial performance??
? Enhance understanding about current and potential participants??
? Identify areas for continuing improvement, and future organizational requirements??
? Share across the organisation, and enhance the capability of staff and Board members?
